Safeco – Personal Auto Customer Relief Refund

We recognize the uncertainty and financial challenges you may be facing as the nation bands together to slow the spread of coronavirus. To help our customers, we are taking the following action:

Fewer drivers are on the road, which means fewer accidents. With this in mind, we are announcing our Personal Auto Customer Relief Refund, which will return approximately $250 million to our customers. Here’s how it works:

Personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund on two months of their auto premium, based on your premium amount as of April 7, 2020.1

We are planning to issue the refund in the manner you made your most recent payment or by check.

We will begin issuing refunds in the coming weeks, after we have approval from state insurance regulators.

Your refund will happen automatically, and you do not need to call us to get your refund.

Nationwide provides COVID-19 auto premium relief—$50 rapid relief premium refund for personal lines auto customers

Many people are experiencing hardship due to the efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. That emerging trend is prompting Nationwide to offer a one-time premium refund of $50 per policy for personal auto policies active as of March 31, 2020.

The refund will arrive in the next 30 days, subject to individual state regulatory approval. It will be returned to customers in the last form of payment they have made, whether electronic or paper.

Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker says its simply the right thing to do.

“As a mutual company devoted to protecting people, businesses and futures with extraordinary care, we are offering this rapid relief at a time when drivers are making the right choice to stay off the road and remain home to help flatten the curve,” stated Walker.

The refund is equivalent to an average savings of 15 percent for two months and is on top of existing discounts customers already earn.

“Eligible customers don’t need to do anything,” said Nationwide Property & Casualty President, Mark Berven. “Refunds will automatically be credited to the customers’ most recent method of payment within the next 30 days.”

Helping customers and communities during the COVID-19 crisis

Nationwide has taken numerous steps to serve its customers since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis.

The company has already been extending payment terms for members experiencing hardship, providing immediate relief for customers looking for ways to make ends meet. The company stands ready to maintain business operations and serve the need of our customers and partners across the country, having moved to a work-from-home posture in mid-March.

To provide support for impacted communities, the Nationwide Foundation made $5 million in contributions to local and national charities to support pandemic response efforts.

SmartRide For Nationwide Customers!

SmartRide is a way you can save up to 40% on your auto insurance premium.  Using a plug-in device or your smartphone Nationwide monitors your driving for about three months.  It’s similar to Progressive’s Snapshot program.  There is a 10% participation discount. After you’ve completed the program your full discount will be applied.  At that time you will no longer need to use the device or app, and you will retain the earned discount for as long as you own the policy.  For more information click on this link: SmartRide

Nationwide Policy Number Changes

Nationwide is currently moving all of their business to a new computer platform.  They are combing all of their business, their captive agents and independent agents, like American Midwest Agency, Inc., to the same platform.  You will receive a notice that a new program is available.  Their new program does not necessarily have have lower rates, but in some situations it does.  For the most part, you will not notice any changes to your policies, except your policy numbers will change.  If you would like a quote in Nationwide’s new program, or have any questions, please feel free to call 612-216-4236.

Progressive – Assistance with coverage and payments

During this unprecedented time, we know you may be experiencing stress and financial hardship. While you’re doing your part to fight the pandemic, we’re committed to being there in your time of need. With that in mind, here are some steps we’re taking to make things a little easier:

Personal auto premium credit

  • If you have an active personal auto policy at the end of April or May, you will be receiving a 20% premium credit. There is nothing you need to do. We will calculate your credit for you at the end of that month, and you’ll see it in your Progressive account a few weeks after that. It’s all automatic—our plan is to provide you a confirmation message when each credit is in your account.
    • What you need to qualify
      To receive a credit of 20% of your April premium, your personal auto policy must be active at the end of April. Similarly, to receive a credit of 20% of your May premium, your personal auto policy must be active at the end of May.
    • When you’ll receive your credit
      We’ll calculate your credit within a few weeks of the end of April and May. You’ll receive your credit shortly after that.
    • How your credit will be applied
      Once we’ve calculated the credit for your policy, we’ll automatically apply it to any outstanding balance or your next bill. And if you’re already paid in full, we’ll return the credit amount directly to your payment account or issue you a check.
    • How to estimate your credit
      Because your premium can change throughout the month due to renewal or policy changes you request, we can’t tell you exactly what your credit will be until the end of the month. But you can get a sense of what your credit will be by taking 20% of your normal monthly premium.For example, if your 6-month policy premium is normally $900, one month of premium would be roughly $150. In that situation, you’d be likely to receive a credit of $30 for April. Then, if your policy stays active, you’d receive an additional $30 for May. Keep in mind that unique policy and billing situations may apply. And if you bought a policy after the first of the month, your credit will be prorated—we’ll base it off of the amount of time you were insured with us that month.
